Marie-Marthe Claire (Fritzberg) Halverson was born on January 24th, 1937 in Port-au-Prince Haiti to
Indiana Mazile and Pierre Fritzberg. Marie more affectionately known as “Mamathe” was the youngest
of seven children. She was a very precocious child who had a love for life and learning. On February
11th, 2023, Marie passed away peacefully at home at the age of 86.
Marie attended Lycée des Jeunes Filles where she developed a love for math. With this passion she
decided to teach mathematics to the youth in Haiti. During this time Marie married her childhood
sweetheart.
Marie married Jean Carries in 1958 and from this union they began raising four children together: Gerald
(Gege), Emmeline (Minnie), Patrick & Barbara (Babie). Prior to leaving Haiti Patrick passed away. Seeking
a better life, she moved to the United States in the mid-sixties where they settled in Queens, NY. She
worked diligently to provide for her young family enabling her to purchase her first home.
Unfortunately, the marriage wasn't permanent and ended in 1970.
Marie met and married her second husband Kerry Halverson in 1972, from this union Marie
(Ti-Mamathe) was born. In 1974 the family moved to Massachusetts where they settled in Dorchester.
Regrettably this union ended.
Marie worked at I.M.I for a few years before moving on to Boston Edison where she worked for over 30
years until she retired in 2000. Having a passion for Real Estate, Marie obtained her realtor’s license so
that she could aid others in finding their perfect home. Due to her love of real estate Marie purchased
and rehabbed several properties - one of which was in Land O’Lakes, Florida where she moved to in
2008.
Marie’s favorite pastime was shopping, sewing, and she was an avid gardener with a green thumb who
enjoyed spending many hours cultivating the plants and flowers in her yard. Marie was also a woman of
great faith.
Prior to moving to Boston, Marie attended Saint Alban the Martyr Church in Queens, New York where
Marie then transitioned to The Parish of All Saints from 1975 until her illness no longer allowed her to
attend. Marie was a very active member of the church and was involved in many committees such as
the Hospitality Committee, setting up day trips, luncheons, and raffles to help raise money for the
Church. She was also an active member of the Flower Guild which decorated the Church for the various
celebrations. This was Marie’s true passion, she loved going to the flower exchange to purchase the
various flowers she was going to use to create her masterpieces.
Marie rarely missed a Sunday service; she could always be seen in the second-row pew in front of the
pulpit. Her greatest joy was seeing her children and grandchildren either singing in the choir or serving
on the altar. Marie took pride in volunteering her family for whatever needs the church held.
Marie was the backbone of her family, there isn't anything she wouldn’t do for her kids, grandkids,
nieces or nephews. Family celebrations and outings made her the person who was loved so dearly.
