James Grover Johnson

October 28, 1968 — August 30, 2022

James G. Johnson was born on October 28, 1968, and departed his life on August 30, 2022. Son of Phyllis Johnson and the late Richard Allston, James was born and raised in Boston, MA, and Baptized at Holy Tabernacle Church of Boston. James moved his family to Washington State in 2006. Although he was injured early on from a work-related accident, he received his Associate's Degree from Tacoma Community College and worked towards his Bachelor's Degree. As a result of his injury, he became physically unable to continue his education. James enjoyed art. He loved playing chess and repairing and building a variety of things. In addition, he will be remembered by many for his knack for animated storytelling. James is survived by his wife Nakisha, son Jaylen, stepdaughter Brieyon, and granddaughter Autumn. He is also survived by his mother, Phyllis Johnson, brother Jammont Johnson, sister Dani Baptista, and a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister Chanel Ashely. I’m Free Don’t grieve for me for now I’m free, I’m following the path God laid for me I took his hand when I heard him call, I turned my back and left it all I could not stay another day, To laugh, to love, to work or play Tasks left undone must stay that way, I’ve found that peace at the close of day If my parting has left a void, Then fill it with remembered joy A friendship shared, a laugh, a kiss, Ah yes, these things I too will miss Be not burdened with times of sorrow, I wish for you the sunshine of tomorrow My life’s been full, I’ve savored much, Good friends, good times, my loved one’s touch If my time seemed all too brief, Don’t lengthen it now with undue grief Lift up your heart, rejoice with me, God wanted me now, He set me free. © 1974, 2021 Anne Lindgren Davison
