Lacey Gwendolyn Dear, also known as “Joyce,” passed away on Wednesday, August 10th, 2022 at the age of 91. She was born on March 11, 1931, in St. Michael, Barbados to Lesley Rock and Muriel Dear.
Lacey grew up in Ocean View Road, Spooners Hill, and attended Grace Hill Girls School. After graduation, she worked in many sales roles within Barbadian supermarkets. In 1961, she gave birth to her daughter, Carolyn, and in 1967, she gave birth to her son, Clement.
In 1982, she and her children immigrated to the United States to join her sister, Sheila, in Boston, Massachusetts. She worked as a Boston Public Schools bus monitor for many years before her retirement.
Lacey was a very astute, no-nonsense, by-the-book individual, but also loved to laugh and tell stories about her time back home in Barbados and spend time with her family.
Lacey is survived by her daughter Carolyn (John) Kinch; her nieces, Jessica (Dennis) Keith, Cornel Louis, and Cheryl Dear; her nephews Orson and Gregory Dear; her grandchildren Charles (Sonya), David (Denia), Eric (Courtney Haczynski), Kyle, and Brittany (Felix Mercado) Kinch; her great-nephews Stanley (Jen Woo), Brian (Joanne), Justin (Parvena Baldeo), and great-nieces Carla Thompson, Jacqueline Louis-Gaines, and Ashleigh (Joshua Bray) Keith; and countless great-grandchildren, great-nieces, great-nephews, and cousins. Lacey was preceded in death by her mother, Muriel Dear; her son, Clement Dear; her sisters, Ernesta, Jean, and Sheila Dear; her nephew, Kelvin Dear; and her great-nephew, Richard Dear.
