Wayne Matthew Barnes

December 27, 1994 — March 26, 2022

Wayne Matthew Barnes, son of Wayne and Carla Barnes, was born on December 27, 1994. Lil Wayne, the name the family and friends gave him, was called home to glory on Saturday, March 26, 2022. He was predeceased by his grandmothers, Susie Barnes, and Charlie Mae Wilson; grandfather Robert Flood, Sr; Uncles Marvin, Waverly, and Keith Barnes. Lil Wayne loved doing things with family, so he joined his father, and cousin/sister Bria when Rev. Dr. John Womack baptized them at Metropolitan Baptist Church. Lil Wayne attended Sunday School and participated in other church activities. Such as junior usher, youth choir and audio visual. Wayne also took part with a group of kids from Metropolitan Baptist who went to Texas, entering a contest where they introduced their own webpage. Lil Wayne had a sweet smile that touched the hearts of all who knew him. His stylish and smooth persona gave way to an easy spirit and a great sense of humor. He brought great joy and pride to his parents when he came home with honor roll report cards. He was humble about the awards and trophies that filled the shelves in the living room which illustrated that he was a gifted athlete. As he prepared for high school, coaches and scouts visited with him and his family to recruit him for football and basketball. He went into Job Corp and became a Contractor. As a carpenter and painter, he worked with great precision. Lil Wayne also had a sneaky side that spoke to that manifested in him as a practical joker. He told his sister, Dani, that she could feed their dad’s bird dog food. She did and the bird died. Their Dad insisted they get dressed and give the bird a funeral. Lil Wayne's only job was to take care of the bird. We won’t dare talk about the cat, the goldfish's funeral or how the dog got her leg broken!!!! Lil Wayne had a way of saying something as if it was not a big deal but to really know him it was a big deal. Lil Wayne just did not like to see people sad. He would put words together that would cause you to think or break into laughter. To show Dani she had nothing on him when it came to music, he would try out a few notes and break into rap music that would make Precious, the dog, bark at him. Overall, Lil Wayne was a great son, brother, dad, cousin, and friend who loved his family. Lil Wayne leaves to cherish and mourn his memories, his daughter Camila Barnes, parents Carla & Wayne Barnes, sisters Danielle Barnes, Samantha Jenkins; brothers Oliver Jenkins, and Raymond Brown, Genesis Mades, Camila’s mother;grandfather, Carl M.
