Mrs Lula Lawrence
May 22, 1937- February 10, 2022
Lula Vestil Thorpe-Lawrence was born to the late Fred Lee and Myrtle Thorpe of Lewis, North Carolina. She was the one of 13 children, 5 girls and 8 boys. “Lula Mae” as she was fondly called by her family, enjoyed talking about her life back in North Carolina how she worked in the fields and enjoyed running and having fun with her family. It was there she met and married her loving late husband of 60 plus years James E. Lawrence. Together they decided to move to Boston, Massachusetts where they began their family of 4 beautiful children; James Allen, Carlton, Susan and Daniel (all deceased). Lula Mae started a career at the Omni Parker House in 1970 in the Housekeeping Department and was known as a hard worker.
Lula was awarded “Housekeeper of the Month” where it was noted “she was always willing to help out and her attitude gained the respect of her fellow employees and supervisors.” Lula retired from the Omni Parker House in 1989. Boston was also where she began her spiritual journey by having a bible study with Lillian Bell. As she started to discover bible truths, learning about Jehovah God and the Kingdom’s promises, Lula decided to dedicated her life as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was baptized on December 11, 1971.
Although She loved her family in North Carolina, she decided to remain in Boston to stay close to her spiritual family and friends in the Washington Park and South End Congregations. Lula Mae remained an active loyal and faithful Witness until declining health slowed her down. However despite these challenges, she kept her mind focused on Jehovah God’s loving promises of living in a Paradise Earth and welcoming all her children and family back to enjoy these blessings.
Lula Mae never faltered in her Faith and Hope. She always spoke about her dreams where she vividly saw herself being there with everyone she had come to know and love.
Lula Lawrence will be truly missed by all who knew her.
