Raphael Egesi Akara, age 71, passed away peacefully at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital in Needham on the 16 of December of 2021 after a battle with a brief illness. Raphael was born on January 19th 1950 in Aba, Nigeria to his mother, Nworoni Akara and his father, Akara Agim. His parents unfortunately passed away early in his life, so Raphael and his older brother were raised by his grandmother Nneta, whom he loved with all of his heart. Raphael was passionate about education and worked hard as a nurse for over 30 years. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Finance at Northeastern University and an MBA from Suffolk University. After finding out he had an intense passion to help others he went to Youville Hospital and received an LPN certification. At the age of 39, he married his sweetheart, Dorothy Akara, and they spent a further 30 plus years happily married and started a beautiful life together. They later on had three children together. Raphael worked for various rehabilitation centers in the Boston area as a nurse and was loved and respected by both his patients and colleagues. He retired at the age of 65 and spent much of his time in Nigeria, where he would help the local community that he grew up in and developed his properties. Raphael had a passion for music, finances and the political landscape of Africa and how to improve it. Raphael was an active and caring person and spent most of his life caring for others. He always surrounded himself with family and close friends that he was most comfortable with and inspired him to be a better person. Raphel is survived by his wife-Dorothy Akara, oldest son-Chidi Akara, son-Chimezie Akara, daughter-Ugo Akara, and grandson-Alex Akara. To send flowers to the family or plant a tree in memory of Raphael Akara, please visit Tribute Store
