Marguarita Glendora Mason

It is truly an honour and privilege for me to stand here before you, with my dear sister Gloria, to speak about a very special person, our sister Margarita Mason, known to many as Mag or Maggie, and to a few as the Mason girl. My name is Bishop Lil, called by many Lilly. I am Mag’s youngest sister. There were ten of us three boys and seven girls, this includes two sets of twins, a boy and a girl, and two girls of which Mag was one of the girls, her twin sister was Ina. Mag was born on March 3rd, 1944 in Peg well Land, Christ Church, B’dos. she was the daughter of the late Oliver and Atheline Mason, who made sure all of us were brought up to acknowledge and fear God, we had no choice whether we wanted to go to church or not, belly aches, snotty nose, headaches, stumped toes, all complaints landed on deaf ears. We worshipped under the Archdiocese of the Sons of God Apostolic Spiritual Baptist Faith, whose founder and Leader was the Late Patriarch Dr. Granville Williams. We did not have much money, but we have something money cannot buy, lots of love, and quite a large caring God fearing family. Mag was educated in in Barbados at Water Street Girls’ school. She worked several jobs including Hutchinson’s & the Hotel industries, before migrating to the United States, where she did Housekeeping and Private babysitting. Mag was the mother of three children, two girls and one boy, their names are Patricia Mason-James who resides in Alberto, Canada, Monica Mason who resides in B’dos, and Clyde Mason who resided with her in the USA. She has two grandchildren, their names are Christopher and Markel. Mag loved and cared for her family unconditionally. Mag had one sincere best friend all her life, her twin sister Ina. Ina and Mag were separated only by birth, for seventy-four years there were both physically and spiritually connected. 99 percent of their lives were together, you hardly see one without the other, if either of them took a vacation, the other would call day and night until they were reunited. If one was hospitalized, the other would scarcely eat or sleep, and would continue to ask for the other, until they rejoined. They loved to cook, and enjoyed feeding everyone who was present. They drank cups and cups of tea, while watching TV or while playing the game Patience together. They would stay up until the wee-wee hours of the morning talking, laughing and turning back the pages of memory that occurred decades ago, whether it was about individuals, or incidences, it seemed they knew everyone in all the Parishes and their full history, and it appears that everyone knew or heard of the Masons’ twin girls. They both loved singing hymns / trumpets, at times they were dancing partners, and rejoice endlessly together. Yes they quarreled intermittently with each other, but dare you intervene, they both would turn on you in a heartbeat, and advise you to mind your business, most times they were a tagged team. Mag was very, very troublesome, she loved to tease everyone, she made horrendous faces and she enjoyed making everyone laugh, she always joked around. She never stressed nor complained about anything, she would always, always be humming a hymn, and ready to dance. Mag carried a very peaceful, contented, calm Spirit. No swearing, cussing or violent behavior at any time. However, as she declined, she became stubborn and rude, and would definitely let you know who is older, and in control, and who would not be ordered around, and who paid the bills in that house, who should stop humbugging her should leave now. When she was unable to care for herself, her one and only son, Clyde, made sure she lacked nothing at any time. As we helplessly watched her get progressively weaker and weaker, Mag took her flight on Friday November 26th. Exactly 3years and 8 days after her twin sister Ina. I know there are many dear and loving friends and family members from near and far, I believe you will miss the friendship Mag has brought into your lives, I am sure all will remember her in your own special way and for many different reasons. Most times you may smile or even frown, but I believe she will not be forgotten. Maggie we will remember you, through the many people you have left behind, whose lives you have positively touched. Hopefully, as we have been taught, the circle will never be broken. Maggie, may the Heavenly hosts guide you on your journey, and may you rest in the beauty of Paradise. Finally on behalf of the entire Mason Family, We humbly thank all of you, especially her daughter-in-law Miss Kellie, who has been there from the beginning to the end, also Miss Yvonne, Miss Yvette, Miss Pam and Ms. Derica; who were always just a phone call away, when circumstances did not allow Family members to be there. We appreciate all your prayers, love, support and kind words during this celebration of Maggie’s’ life. May the Eternal God bless all of you. Thanks so much.
