Herminia W. Huggins-Diaz was a mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She left this world on May 5, 2021, after an 18-month battle with a serious illness.
She was born to Eugenia and Eric in Port of Spain, Trinidad. In her early twenties, she left Trinidad for the American dream. She began working and eventually attended Northeastern University, where she earned her bachelor's in accounting. As the first member of her family to successfully integrate into American life, she was happy to have sponsored numerous family members on their paths to citizenship. At Putnam Investments, where she was employed for over 20 years until retirement, she was a corporate accountant in Boston and later Braintree.
Herminia had a great passion for horticulture, cooking, baking, art (as an amateur photographer), and reading—she was a voracious reader. With ease and interest, she could discuss any topic with anyone. Herminia also enjoyed traveling, having visited the Philippines, Japan, France, Germany, England, Canada, and many cities across the United States.
Herminia is survived by her ex-husband, Rod; daughters Heidi (Wayne) and Samiyah (JC); grandchildren Terrence (Catrice), Micaiah, Sarai, Alanna, Jehan, and Josefin; siblings Sheila (Sterling), Noël, Yvonne (George), Frederick, Dolston, Muriel (Selwyn), Linda; cousin Stephanie; great-grandchildren; step-siblings; along with other extended family members. Her son, Jamari, and both parents preceded her in death.
A Celebration of her life will be held later this year.
