Vethum I Ashby

Vethum, affectionally known as “Mummy and Aunt V” was born in Christ Church, Barbados November 5, 1938 to Elmonda Phillips and Eugene Sullivan. Mummy worked at Excel Supermarket, then at Carlton Snackette as manager serving up delicious beef and chicken rotis along with tasty milkshakes. Mummy attended Black Rock Wesleyan Holiness church in Barbados, where she assisted in choir rehearsals, was a choir member and sang solos. Mummy immigrated to Boston, Massachusetts in 1973 and worked as a live in "Nanny" with a large family in Wellesley, and in 1974 came back to Barbados for her immediate family to reside in Boston. Mummy attended Beaulah Pilgrim Holiness church from 1973 until her death. She participated in Missionary Ministry as well as sang in the choir. She was also a soloist. Mummy worked a few different jobs, then in 1981, started babysitting her first grandson and then her first grand daughter. This type of work grew into an at home daycare, where she cared and nurtured several children. As a result, she then became affectionally known as “Gran Gran” Mummy loved to cook and hosted several friends and families after Sunday church. She had a love for baking where she made her infamous sweet bread and black cake, which she shared (not sold) with many over the years. Mummy leaves her immediate family to celebrate her life: Children: Earl, Anthia(Clarence), Ireta and the late Janet. Grandchildren: Anderson, Chermaine, Andrew, Rachel, Arianna, Stephanie, Amira Great grand-children: Tommy, Latrell, Cassidy, Madison, Titan, Sarai, Syheir. Several nieces and nephews call her “Aunt V”. During her life, she enjoyed her large family, from her mother’s side: Sisters and Brothers: - Maretta, Lupina, Venuta, Glenda, Cynied, Jennifer - Stephen(deceased), Vonzell, Nigel, Richard (deceased), Ted From her father’s side: Sisters and Brothers: - Sandra, Sharon, Cynthia - Rodney, Junior Niece of -Montelle Gill of Barbados -Anice Charles of Barbados May Mummy rest in eternal peace.
