Camie Fitzgerald

June 9, 1959 — November 17, 2020

Whether you knew him as Cameron, Bugs, Camie or Dad... odds are he left a lasting impression. Cameron Decourcey Fitzgerald was born on the beautiful island of Barbados. The day was June 9, 1959 and the two lucky humans were Eric Morris and the late Lucille Fitzgerald-Morris. Camie grew up in Eagle Hall St. Michael and attended Wesley Hall Boys' School. He was also a Wesley Hall Cub Scout. He attended St. Leonard's Boys’ Secondary School. Camie later went on to work for The Nation Newspaper as a graphic designer for a few years. Camie was extremely talented; he was a tailor at the corner of Eagle Hall & Black Rock. He also sang, danced, was an amazing painter and you could always count on him to throw down in the kitchen. Camie’s first son Akil was born on April 13,1988. In 1996 Camie migrated to the United States. Camie’s second child and only daughter, Zakiya, was born December 9th, 1995. The late Jelani was born May 28,1998 and the baby, Khalid was born May 20, 2000. Camie was very big on family. He carried the spirit of family and community with him wherever he went. He leaves behind his brothers Rodney Fitzgerald and Ricardo Morris and his sisters Dawne, Marilyn & Violett Morris. Camie has joined his son Jelani, mother, Lucille Fitzgerald- Morris, and sister Heather Fitzgerald in the ancestral realm. Camie also leaves behind his long time significant other Deborah who he cherished dearly, as well as her son Kareem and his son Kareem Jr. Deborah is said to be “the best step mother anyone could ever receive.” Camie is also survived by his grandchildren, Nahj, Zhuri and Samiyra, who he loved dearly. Our hearts will forever be broken but one thing is for sure, Camie would want us to go on, enjoy life and give thanks that he was able to share his life with all of us.
