Archie Charles departed us way too soon on August 28, 2020.
Archie was born in Pine Bluff, Arkansas on April 22, 1947 to parents Rubin and Dorcas (Dobbs) Charles. He was met on the stairway to heaven by his parents as well as his brothers: Rubin Jr, O.C., Samuel, Joe and Cleophus as well as sisters: Catherine and Willie and his granddaughter La’Portia Marie Jones.
Archie moved to Clewiston, FL as he was a migrant worker who took jobs that allowed him to travel the country. It was there that he met his wife, Hilda Marie (Jones) Charles. They then moved to Boston, MA and got married and started a family where he would spend the rest of his days.
Archie was a blue-collar worker who loved working with his hands. He worked at Capital Tire as a manager for over 25 years until they closed. Archie could take apart any machine or car and put it back together again. He would see something and say, “I can build that” and he would. His sense of humor was always a delight. His laughter would make you laugh even if you did not want to. His smile lit up a room. He had the wisdom of that of a much older soul. He could converse with you for hours on any subject but would always warn you to “not talk politics or religion” as some people may not like your views. He had a strong faith in God.
Archie is survived by his 8 children, Marvin Jones Sr of Jacksonville, FL, Alissa Charles, Archie Charles, Alton Charles, Demetria Charles, Jeremiah Charles and Justin Charles all of Boston, MA and Jennifer Charles of Fitchburg, MA. His sisters, Dorthula Charles Wilkerson of Kansas City, KS, Diane Charles and Lillian Charles Bonner of Pine Bluff, AR and brother William Charles of Olympia, WA. He has many grandchildren, greatgrandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends left to mourn his passing.
