Charles Anthony Moitt

May 7, 1947 — February 18, 2019

Charles Worth Anthony Moitt from St. Johns, Antigua was born on May 7, 1947 to the late Caleb and Olive Moitt.

Charles was raised with his brother Bickham by their mother. His father was very involved in his life and actively supported him.

Charles lost his mother as a young boy and went to live with his father’s brother, Ainsworth Lewis along with his wife Sarah Lewis.

Uncle Ainsworth and Aunt Sarah, whom he called ‘Pa’ and ‘Ma’ raised him. A heavenly blessing flowed from this new family unit.

Aunt Sarah would take Charles to church where she introduced him to Christ. One day during a service, his aunt took him to the altar.

It is at that time, Charles felt the presence of Christ in him and accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior.

Charles was saved.  He described that moment knowing Christ was with him and in him by the presence of a warmth and indescribable happiness that penetrated his spirit which has never left and stayed with him through adulthood. Charles moved from Antigua to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands and continued in service to God in the capacity of the Youth and Usher Departments of the church.

His involvement in church continued when he moved to Boston, Massachusetts,

where he was an active member of Beulah Pilgrim Holiness Church / Beulah Family Church.

Charles received auto body repair training at Zeffie Auto Body Repair School in Antigua.

He utilized that education and skilled trade as a career path to provide for this family.

Charles interests and hobbies were many. He was an avid soccer player and an active team member of the Virgin Islands Soccer Association for many years. He loved laughing, telling jokes and was well known for his great humor. He was a funny, funny man. Charles had a big, loud personality. It was well suited for the stage. One of his most enjoyable talents was acting. Charles acted in plays in both church and community productions. During one church play, he portrayed the character of a student who wouldn’t do anything. The portrayal was so successful that Charles would later be affectionately called, “Do nothing.” Another of his many talents was playing dominos.

He remained undefeated in his home. A fact that did not go untold. He made it known.

Charles had fun playing pool too. Charles invested in his community by working with youth. He enjoyed supporting and encouraging them.

Charles married Esther Allen in 1973. His firstborn son, Duane Moitt was brought forth from that union. He was joined together in marriage to his beloved wife, Bernadette Moitt in 1985 and fathered four children: Brian, Cassandra, Areal and Chantelle.

He valued his family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Charles became ill for the first time in 2016. He maintained his pleasant disposition, upbeat personality and humor in the midst of his medical journey. Despite the serious medical condition, no one knew. He kept his joyful, humorous, kid around attitude.

He continued to crack jokes and never complained. Charles sustained a pleasant nature through it all.
