William T. Cooper

Mr. William T. Cooper 76, passed away peacefully on Sunday September 23, 2018 after a long term illness surrounded by his loved ones. He was born to the late Ethel(Goodman) and James T. Cooper on January 2, 1942 in Windsor, North Carolina. William, also affectionally known as T.C., Uncle Tee, Mr. Coop, Mr. C. and Daddy Cooper graduated from Windsor County High School, where he was a star quarterback football player winning several state championships. He was a member of St. John’s Missionary Baptist Church in Windsor, NC where he accepted Christ an early age. He also served as a deacon of Mason Cathedral COGIC later on in life. Upon moving to Boston, William was employed as the driver of a poultry truck. After many years working on the poultry truck, William developed a love for driving long distance and went on to drive anything from buses to the tractor trailers. When he left the poultry business his family was quite happy, as we were tired of chicken feathers & the poultry stench following him into the house every day he came home. I think everything a chicken possessed, WE ATE!! From that experience William learned all the mechanics of the trucks inside and out and continued to drive until an injury forced him into retirement. His hobbies included hunting deer, fishing, long family drives, music, singing and also being a faithful New England Patriots fan . He believed he had the voice of Sam Cooke and was also an excellent chef and grill master always in charge of the grill and making the best ribs. In the early (60’s-70’s) he loved drag racing in Franklin Park with his friends at family picnics. He always had a good story to tell and would exagerate it every time he told it. He gave each one of us one syllable nick names which were quite appropriate because it described a characteristic we possessed. William is survived by his wife Yvonne(Cross) Cooper, three daughters, Sartreina Dottin(James) of Littleton, Cothenia Cooper of Dorchester, Almetta Cooper of Dorchester, and two sons Leroy and Fernanda of Roxbury. He is survived by five brothers; James Earl Cooper of Boston, James Saunders Cooper of Boston, Eugene Saunders of Boston, Floyd Goodman of South Carolina, and Sam Goodman of South Carolina. He is also survived by three sisters Joan (Cooper)Tucker of Boston, Loretta Goodman of South Carolina and Lois Goodman of South Carolina. He was preceded in death by his brothers James T. Cooper Jr., Alex Goodman of South Carolina and Linda Goodman of South Carolina. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren and four great grandchildren. A viewing will be held on Tuesday October 2, 2018 at 5pm followed by a Home Going Celebration at The State Temple COGIC, 16-18 Fessenden St. Mattapan, Ma 02126. Burial at Oaklawn Cemetery 427 Cummins Hwy. Boston, Ma on 10/3/18 at 12pm. .
