It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sylvia Whittaker, who departed this life on April 9th, 2025, in Brooklyn, New York. A devoted Christian, loving mother, and treasured grandmother, Sylvia touched the lives of many with her faith, kindness, and unwavering strength.
Born on January 24th, 1947, in Clarendon, Jamaica, Sylvia was the daughter of Rudolph Whittaker and Alvira Wallace. In 1993, she courageously moved from the lush hills of Jamaica to the vibrant city of New York, carrying with her a spirit rooted in love, resilience, and grace.
Sylvia became the beloved matriarch of a large and close-knit family, a role she embraced with open arms and a generous heart. Her home was more than a dwelling, it was a sanctuary of love, comfort, and joy. She had a rare gift for making everyone feel seen, heard, and deeply valued. To know her was to feel loved without condition.
She leaves behind a powerful legacy of faith and compassion that will continue to inspire all who were blessed to know her. Sylvia is survived by her children Karen Clark, Juliet Clarke, Donovan Ricketts, Paul Brown, Mishelle Simmonds, Leon Dawkins, and Stanford Stewart; her loving siblings: Orville and Cynthia; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought endless joy to her life.
Though our hearts are heavy, we find peace in knowing that her spirit lives on in the love she gave so freely. Sylvia’s light, laughter, and legacy will forever remain with us.
With heartfelt sorrow, The Family of Sylvia Whittaker.
