Simao Vieira, 89, passed away on JunSimao “Nene” Vieira, 89, of Dorchester, MA passed peacefully surrounded by his loving wife, Lucinda Lima-Araujo Vieira, and children on June 11th, 2023 in Boston, MA.
Simao was born on February 7, 1934 to Cesarina Vieira and Eduardo Depina in Fogo, Cabo Verde, and raised with his siblings in Sao Felipe. Early in life, Simao met Lucinda, his wife and life-time partner. In 1952, they devoted their lives to each other in marriage. They were able to raise their children in Cabo Verde and build a strong foundation of love and support for their children and grandchildren before immigrating to the United States in May of 1993.
Simao was a man of strength, deeply cared for his loved ones, and inspired others to be faithful - despite hardships he encountered. He was a loving husband and devoted father and grandfather who called everyone “Filha,” or “Filho” (daughter or son). Simao was admired for his charismatic personality and ability to nurture. He instilled in his children and grandchildren the importance of compassion, perseverance and the value of family bonds that will forever shape their lives.
Simao enjoyed spending time with his family and had many passions and hobbies that brought him immense joy, such as scratch tickets and traveling. He was a constant source of love, guidance, and laughter to his family, who were the light of his life. He will be remembered for his warm smile and ability to make everyone around him feel cherished and valued. While others know him as “Nene,” his family knew him as “Donu” - a true pillar of our family. His legacy will carry on forever in their hearts.
Simao is survived by his wife, Lucinda Lima-Araujo Vieira and 16 children: Oteldino (Dino) Vieira, Ana Maria Vieira-Veiga, Teresa Depina, Rita Alves, Madueno Vieira, Emanuel (Mane) Vieira, Veronica (Noca) Vieira, Auzenda (Nenezinha) Fernandes, Dilce Depina, Natalio Vieira, Emanuel (Nene) Vieira, Oteldina (Dina) Vieira, Carlos (Colote) Vieira, Magda (Maggie) Vieira-Rodrigues, Dilson Vieira and Monica Vieira. He will be greatly missed by his 58 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren,1 great-great grandchild, and a host of family and friends. They will all find solace in the cherished memories shared and the profound impact that he had on our lives.
