Richard V. Slayman

Richard V. Slayman, lovingly known as “Rick,” was born on October 12, 1961, the second oldest of six children born to Arthurlyn Slayman. Rick accepted the Lord as his Savior and was baptized in the Berea Seventh-Day Adventist Church. After graduating from Berea S.D.A. Elementary School, he attended Boston English High School for a couple of years and graduated from Madison Park High School.

Rick was gregarious, quick with an infectious smile and had a pleasant disposition that instantly made him comfortable to be around. He was a great conversationalist, he was generous, and he was kind. Rick loved to travel, was devoted to his mother, and often took her on his trips. He was Boston’s emissary to the Philly branch of the family. He loved life itself and lived life fully. Like many in the Slayman family, Rick loved to eat and would think nothing of driving to Cape Cod for fresh seafood, or to New York for a corned beef sandwich from the Carnegie Deli, or to Philly to get a cheesesteak (and holler at the Philly branch of the family-:).

Rick’s first job was working at South End Pizza on Tremont Street, and he was always employed. He’s held positions as diverse as Executive Assistant to the Chief Justice at Boston’s Municipal court, as a corrections officer on Deer Island, as Chemicals Tester at Mass Highway, and, up until his passing, was a Relocation Supervisor for the Mass Department of Transportation. All his friends and family knew that Rick was not one to shun work. Indeed, in addition to his full-time job, he often moonlighted as a limousine driver, hotel front desk clerk, and bartender.

Rick will be lovingly missed.

Rick leaves in life to cherish his memory his fiancée Faren Woolery, his daughters Nicole Owens and Pia Slayman; his mother, Arthurlyn Slayman, siblings Ronald Slayman, Sr (Niecy), Yvonne Slayman, Wayne Slayman, Alisa Slayman, Michael Slayman-Patino (Nelson), Derrick Combs, Chant’e Combs; aunts Marsha Jones and Terry Hall, uncle Boyce Slayman, Sr. (Karen); cousins Tracy Jordan, April Jones, Stephanie Slayman, Shayne Slayman, Aron Hall, Zana Hall, YitLing Slayman and Boyce Slayman Jr. (Charlene), Powell Simpson (godson), Chris Burks (lifelong best friend), and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, second cousins, extended family, and friends.
