Reuben Irby

December 28, 1939 — August 15, 2021

HIS Story Early Sunday morning, August 15, 2021, Reuben Irby entered into eternal rest at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, MA. He was born on December 28,1939 in Mobile Alabama to the late Rufus Irby and Beatrice Irby. Reuben received his education in the Mobile public school system. He was affectionately known as Buddy to all of his family and friends. Reuben married his soul mate Mamie L. Smith (Irby) on February 14, 1980. From this union they were blessed with 5 children and 16 grandchildren. He always made God and family his #1priority. Reuben accepted Christ in his life and after marrying Mamie, they joined Mt. Pleasant Holiness Church and became faithful members. Reuben taught adult Sunday School and was a Trustee. Later in life, he attended A New Day Holiness Church where he was ordained as a Deacon. Reuben was an amazing and loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, mentor and provider. He worked as a carpenter until his retirement and loved helping family, friends, and his church with their building projects. His hobbies included working on his cars, fishing, doing crossword puzzles, reading his bible and planting beautiful vegetable gardens every year. Reuben was also a great cook. His family would get excited for those collard greens, yams and sweet potato pies every Thanksgiving. He prayed a special prayer over the family as well every Thanksgiving. He knew the power of a praying family and understood his God given assignment. Reuben leaves to cherish his memory and continue his legacy of Faith, Family, and Hard work; his beautiful wife: Mamie Irby, his sons Tarence (Teresa), Lance, Norris, the late Reuben Jr., his daughter June (Terrence) all of Boston, Massachusetts; sixteen grandchildren, sixteen great grandchildren; His siblings, his brother, George, his sisters: Clarice, Essie and Bernice, of Massachusetts; Barbara of California and Jacqueline of Georgia; a host of devoted nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. He will be greatly missed.
