Nathaniel Brewer, son of the late Nella Brewer and Clifford Jones, was born on April 10, 1946 in New York and peacefully departed this life on March 12, 2025. Nathaniel, also affectionately known as "Gene" to his loved ones, was a devoted husband, father, brother, uncle and friend. His personable character, kind heart and sense of humor left an indelible mark on those fortunate enough to know him.
Nathaniel’s journey from DeWitt Clinton High School in Bronx, NY to UMass Boston—and eventually to over two decades of service at Boston Medical Center—highlights a remarkable commitment to compassion and care. He truly believed in uplifting others and touched countless lives through patient care, parenting support and the recovery process. Even as he navigated his own personal health battles over the past several years, his will to live and to serve others remained steadfast. The way he invested himself in others' healing, growth, and recovery speaks volumes about his character and his generosity of spirit.
Nathaniel was always willing to offer guidance, support and hope to anyone in need. His favorite saying, “Go with God,” offers a beautiful glimpse into his kindness and wisdom. Nathaniel was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop John Matthew Borders, III.
Nathaniel had a love for the simple joys of life. In his moments of relaxation, he enjoyed listening to music, reading, appreciating a good movie, swimming, bicycling and playing a good game of cards. He found peace in tending to his yard, taking pride in every detail. He had a passion for traveling, always eager to explore new places and create lasting memories. He enjoyed date nights with Theresa, whether going to a concert, taking a road trip or dining out. Known for his meticulous sense of style, he carried himself with integrity and confidence, always looking his best. Nathaniel was a huge fan of New York sports teams, often sparking playful debates in a home with avid Boston fans, (especially when it came to the Celtics). Most of all, he had an unwavering love for spending quality time with family and friends. His warmth, wisdom and love for life will be deeply missed but forever cherished.
Nathaniel leaves to mourn his beloved wife, Theresa Brewer, son, Nathaniel Dakhari Brewer and daughters Nickole Brewer and Kim Leath; sister, Wilma Lawery (William deceased); grandchildren DeJon, NaJe, Madison, Starr, Skyy and Rainn; great-grandchildren Zoey, Zakai and Onyz and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and devoted friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Yolanda, and brothers, Gregory and Gary. Nathaniel's legacy of love and resilience will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew him. "Go with God."
