Mauritania AbdulBasir passed away on June 5, 2023, in Boston, Massachusetts at the young age of 29-years-old.
Mauritania was born on October 24, 1993, in Boston, MA, to Dawud and Fatimah AbdulBasir. She was a precocious child with loads of energy and laughter. She persevered and weathered through many storms and kept up with her education. Mauritania graduated from Harding high school in 2013 in Bridgeport, CT and later went on to earn a Bachelor of Science in Sports Medicine from Newbury College, Brookline, MA in 2018. She started her career as a social activist and Physical Ed. Teacher Assistant and went on to work for several years in various jobs.
Our family lost a bright light, but the world gained a beautiful angel. Mauritania was without a doubt a beautiful, funny, and the most family oriented you'd ever meet. Mauritania also known as 'Tani' to most, had this smile that could brighten even the darkest of hearts. She was funny and the life of the party. She loved zombie movies! She was a big kid at heart. She loved to dance and play video games. She could make friends just standing at the bus stop! She was 'aggy' at times and when you got in a disagreement with her, she made sure she got her point across. She wanted to be more involved with family and she got some of us wanting to do the same. She checked in on everyone and wanted everyone to get along.
You haven't reached the peak of your life. There was so much for you to offer. Losing you is the most devastating blow to the heart that this family can bare.
As it stands, we hold together more strongly than ever before. We will keep your light shining in our hearts. We will continue the fight. It is our duty to see that none of us (children/siblings) feel they have no one to turn to when in need of help. Wounds, unresolved, are contagious.
Mauritania is survived by parents Fatimah AbdulBasir - mother, Dawud AbdulBasir - father. Sisters: Samiah Dunac, Siyana Cater, Nibah AbdulBasir, Bahijah AbdulBasir, Samawiyah AbdulBasir, and Abyssinia AbdulBasir. Brothers: Istimsak AbdulBasir, Mustaghfir AbdulBasir, Humza AbdulBasir, and Mufas'ha AbdulBasir.
Be with God and from that position help us find light in dark places; Please ask GOD to keep watch over us as we are a mess without you. Rest in pure peace sweet, beautiful daughter/sister/cousin/friend (Angel). Farewell Tani.
