Maureen Orita Small (Adams), affectionately known as “Rita” was born on May 30, 1939 in Jackson, Saint Michael, Barbados and peacefully transitioned to her eternal resting place on January 15, 2025 in Boston, Massachusetts. Maureen was the second oldest of four children and the only girl born to the late Ilene Germaine Small and Clyde Wilkinson. Maureen immigrated to the United States in the 1970’s with her four sons; John, Anderson, Tyrone and Dereck. She completed her studies in Barbados prior to immigrating to the U.S.
Maureen was an extremely hard worker and very dedicated to her hospitality position at the Park Plaza Hotel, where she worked and retired after almost 40 years. Maureen was an excellent cook, making delicious treats such as fish cakes, macaroni pie and of course rum punch. She was kind and loved everyone, and enjoyed spending time with her family and grandchildren. Even her sons’ friends called her “Mother Maureen” because she took care of them as her own. Maureen also enjoyed attending various events in Boston and spending quality time with her friends Pam and Rebecca. Maureen loved to shop and was a fierce dresser, who always enjoyed looking good.
Maureen is proceeded in death by her mother Ilene Germaine Small; father Clyde Wilkinson; sons’ Tyrone “Malcolm” Small and John Small; brother Trevor Small; and sister Grace King. She leaves to honor her memory, her sons’ Anderson Small and Dereck Small; brothers Elmo Small (Judy) and Vere Small; sister Joyce Haywood; grandchildren Terrance Brown, Dereck Cox, Marquise Chandler, Tyrone Small Jr., Druvon Moore, Tyrone Young, Ashley Maureen Rodriguez, Demetrius Regino, LeTitia Ilene Small, Elaine Small, Mary Beal, Miguel Richardson, and Dereck Small Jr.; many great-grandchildren; as well as a host nieces and nephews and other loved ones and friends.
