Louis Edward Horton was born on October 25, 1941 in Edenton, North Carolina to the late William and Hattie Horton. He entered his eternal rest on March 25, 2024 at which time he joined his grandparents, parents, siblings and loved ones who preceded him in death.
As a young adult growing up in North Carolina, Louis loved playing sports. He was a star athlete in high school where he played football, basketball and baseball. Louis graduated from Edenton High School in 1962. Louis always stated that he never wanted to be a farmer. That determination later brought him to Boston, Massachusetts where he reunited with other siblings who relocated before him. After moving to Boston, Louis worked for Zyrex and the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA). Louis retired from the MBTA in 2000 after 31 years of service as a bus operator.
While living in Boston, Louis met Maye Charles Merritt. In 1966 the two were married and started a beautiful family. From that union they had two sons, Darrell and Cornell. Tragically, Maye’s life was cut short in 1980. Louis was later introduced to Ruby and her daughter, Trina. Louis and Ruby were married in 1982 and continued to raise a happy family.
Louis was a loyal servant of the Lord. In 1965, he dedicated his life to Christ and joined New Hope Baptist Church. Louis served faithfully as a member of the Senior Usher Board until he became an Honorary Usher.
Louis was a devout family man. He enjoyed driving to relatives houses for summers and holidays and looked forward to getting together and having a good time. He was affectionately known as “Bro” to his siblings.
Louis enjoyed watching and playing sports. He was great at bowling and won several trophies and awards for his accomplishments. He was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Louis was great at playing cards and always considered himself as “The Grill Master”.
Louis was a wonderful son, grandson, husband, father, brother and uncle. He was a great role model to his children, nieces and nephews and he gave good advice to anyone who needed help. Louis will always be known for his heart of gold and his beautiful smile. He will truly be missed.
