Ms. Leopoldina Socorra Dunn, a devoted Jehovah’s Witness, beloved mother, sister, and friend, peacefully passed away on September 22, 2024, at the age of 65. She was born on August 5, 1959, in Fogo Cabo Verde, the third eldest of nine siblings, the cherished first daughter of Manuel Socorro Cabral and Lidia De Pina Cabral and affectionately known as "Dina."
Dina arrived in the United States at an early age. She attended the Pauline Shaw School and continued her education at Copley High School, where she proudly received her diploma in 1978. During this formative time, Dina dedicated her life to serving Jehovah on January 1, 1978, and became a full-time pioneer, passionately sharing her faith with others. Dina began her professional journey as a hospitality manager at Liberty Mutual. Seeking a more fulfilling path, she enrolled in the Bridge Education and Career Development Program, where she earned a certificate in accounting. Dina then joined the Office for Refugees and Immigrants as an accounting specialist, a role she served with dedication until her retirement in 2018.
Dina’s love for Jehovah was only matched by her love for her family. She cherished spending time with her siblings, children, grandchildren, and friends. A nature enthusiast, Dina enjoyed long walks, beach outings, and soaking up the sun's warmth. Known for her impeccable fashion sense, she always dressed to impress, often showcasing the latest fashion and hairstyles. Her love for music was evident in her joy for Cape Verdean and reggae tunes, and she was known for her skillful Patois, spoken as if she were a native of Jamaica. Dina’s culinary talents were legendary, and her kitchen was a place where love and flavor came together in unforgettable dishes.
One of Dina’s guiding principles was found in 1 Peter 3:4, which speaks of “the incorruptible beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great value in the eyes of God.” This truth was evident in her every action and interaction. Dina lived her life as a testament to her faith, demonstrating kindness, humility, and an unwavering dedication to Jehovah’s teachings.
Dina was preceded in death by her parents, Manuel Socorro Cabral and Lidia DePina Cabral, and her brothers, Antonio DePina Cabral and Madueno Cabral. She leaves a legacy of love and strength in her children, Andrew Dunn, Andrea Dunn, and Alphonso Dunn, and her adored grandchildren, Daijon Price, Azaury Clarke, and Alina Rosario-Dunn. She is also survived by her brothers, Mario Cabral, Francisco Cabral, Charles Jones, and Joseph Andrews; her sisters, Dulcelina Cabral, Clara Cabral, Claricia Cabral, Julie Cabral, Margarita (Isaura) Pires, and Marlene Cabral; along with a host of nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends. Dina's warmth, vibrant spirit, and unwavering faith will be deeply missed, but her legacy will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
