Joseph Samuel Smith Sr was born November 7, 1935 in Panama Canal Zone to the late Ferdinand Alexander Smith and Eliza Icilda Gibbon Smith of Spanish Town, Jamaica. He is the six of seven siblings. He is survived by his remaining sibling, RT.REV Ruthibell Livingston.
He graduated from the First Latin American School of Panamá in 1957. He worked at Building Brothers in Curundu (Panamá)for several years. He also work in the construction industry. He met his late wife, Albertha Ethelyn Benskin Gooding in Panama. He raised five children, four girls and one boy. The late Lida Paul, Gloriela Crichlow, Grace Scantlebury, Joseph Jr and Elizabeth Whitt. They both worked together to provider for the family they had built.
In 1979, he migrated to the USA. On his off days Joseph aka Sam or "Macgiver" would be found making different "masterpieces" that he deemed useful for his everyday life. As the years went on their family grew and grew, nieces,nephews, grandchildren and great grandchildren. All who have been left behind to celebrate the life and legacy of Joseph Samuel Smith Sr. May he rest in peace with the love of his life as he fondly called her his "chicken", Ethelyn.
