James Green, 87, of Milton, Massachusetts, passed away on February 3,
2024, at his home in Milton. James "Jimmy" was born in Maxeys,
Georgia to the late Shepherd Green and Lilla Lee Nunnanlly. Jimmy
grew up in Springfield, Massachusetts where he graduated from
Springfield Technical High School as a accomplished musician
(saxophone). When he was just 18, he decided he wanted to join the
Army and was stationed at Fort Dix Army Base in New Jersey. He was
an expert rifleman, and carbine marksman earning the National Defense
Service Medal. Jimmy would go on to travel the world serving in the
Vietnam War, with an extended stay in Mannheim, Germany. Jimmy
retired from the United States Army, deeply proud to serve his country.
He married the former Cynthia Barbara Watson in September 1980 after
courting her at Mass General Hospital where they both worked. Jimmy
worked as a computer programmer for MGH for 35 years and during
that time he and Cynthia had a son, Jason.
Jimmy never missed a day of work and was extremely dedicated to his
career. Aside from work he loved spending time with family. He was
proud to support daughter Stacey in her academic and career pursuits.
He provided the discipline and platform for Jason to be able to excel
both academically and athletically with a sense of self and pride. He
loved attending anything his granddaughters Kristina and Jaida
participated in and was very proud of their development.
He was a Prince Hall Mason serving as the Most Worshipful Master for
Celsetial Lodge #2 from 1980-1981. He loved to bowl, and always left
with the championship trophy during tournaments. He enjoyed watching
track and field, and his favorite sports organizations were the NY Giants,
Patriots, Red Sox, and the Celtics. He believed in the family that stays
together prays together, and if they stay together they will love one
another as God has loved each one of them. He made responsible
decisions for his family and that in itself was the best blessing he could
give us.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 42 years, Cynthia, his
stepdaughter Stacey, son in law Raymond; his son Jason; his
grandchildren Jaida and Kristina; his brother Shepherd Green II;
his uncle Anthony; his aunt Dorothy Copeland; And a host of
family and friends spread afar. The Green family would like to
thank their friends and loved ones for the generosity and kindness
shown to them.
