Donald Finklea, age 62, of Avon, MA, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2024, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Camden, AL, on April 15, 1962, to Sylister and Lizzie Finklea, Donald grew up with his eleven siblings, sharing in the close bond of family that would sustain him throughout his life.
Donald's journey through life was nothing short of extraordinary. From a young age, he embraced the world with an open heart, teaching others the true meaning of love, joy, and resilience. His presence filled every room, not with limitations, but with boundless enthusiasm for life. Donald was a beacon of laughter and light, a soul who surpassed every expectation, living fully in the grace that enveloped him.
Whether indulging in his favorite pastimes—playing with mud pies, swimming, savoring his favorite treats, or watching the fireworks at Lynn Beach—Donald always lived in the moment, finding magic in the everyday. He loved attending church. He cherished his family deeply, especially his sister, Danielle, and his nephews, Shawn and Michael. Donald loved spending time with his great-nieces, taking hayrides, and enjoying apple-picking adventures.
Known for his remarkable sense of direction, he had an innate ability to navigate both the roads and the paths of life, always knowing the way back to love and home.
Donald’s joy for life was infectious, often expressed through music and dancing. With a soulful song from Patti LaBelle, Aretha Franklin, or Michael Jackson, he could easily steal the show, becoming the life of the party with his radiant smile and infectious energy. Yet, in true Donald fashion, he could shift the atmosphere with a playful challenge, always ready with his famous line, "Want some of this?" His sense of humor and joy brought levity to every moment, and he never missed a chance to let others know they were cherished.
Donald leaves behind his beloved sister, Danielle Finklea; his brother, David Finklea; his nephew, DaShawn Finklea; and Michael Finklea, along with a host of extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Sylister Finklea, and his mother, Lizzie Finklea; his sisters, Lula Finklea, Delores Finklea, and Catherine Westry; and his brothers, Sylister Finklea Jr., Frank Finklea, Vincent Finklea, Willie Finklea, Calvin Finklea, and Alvin Finklea.
As we reflect on Donald’s life, we are reminded of C.S. Lewis' words: “You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream.” Donald’s life was a testament to this truth. He showed us that no matter what the world perceives, the spirit within each of us is vast and limitless. His heart was full of dreams, joy, and, most importantly, love.
Bible Verse: "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith." – 2 Timothy 4:7
Donald's life reminds us of the beauty found in perseverance and the simple joys of life. Though his earthly journey has come to an end, his legacy of love, laughter, and light will continue to inspire all who knew him.
