Betty was born in Greensboro, North Carolina on February 5th, 1935 to the late William and Fannie Taylor. She was the youngest of eight children. Betty lived her early years attending church and school in the Mt.Zion community in Greensboro. In 1945, at just 10 years old her parents relocated her and four siblings to Boston, MA. Betty attended the Timilty girls Jr High School, and graduated from Dudley Girls High School and went on to be a homemaker. During her young adult years she met and married Melvin Jackson. Betty and Melvin started their very own family where her legacy begin with her first daugther Donna Gomes, Melvin Jr. Michael Sr, and Karen Jackson. Betty remarried Allen Jenkins and from that union two children were born Brian and Jaki Jenkins.
Betty was a lifetime member of Grant A.M.E church , where she enjoyed her fellowship with her family and friends. She loved to travel back home to visit her grandparents and relatives. Her favorite times were the Taylor family reunions. Her morning routine until her last days were two cups of coffee and watching the news station. She loved to cook a wide spread for her children and grandchildren. New Years Eve, Easter, and Thanksgiving you can always count on a grand time in BETTY'S KITCHEN! She loved a "SALE" Filene's basement and Macy's were her favorite places to shop, if you ever walked in either store with her we were leaving with a new coat and smelling like 10 different perfumes. Betty also enjoyed her favorite shows on a daily! General Hospital, Law & Order, & Family fued to name a few. She loved her a good ol' crossword puzzle. Oh we can't forget her classic spades nights! "Parte to Sleep" the only response was to move your feet! Betty shared many special bonds with each and everyone of her children and grandchildren, one stood out like no other! She loved her "Mook Mook" The bond they share is the true definition of unconditional love.
Betty is preceded in death by her parents William and Fannie Taylor, husband Allen Jenkins, her children Donna Gomes(John), Melvin Jr, Michael and Karen Jackson, her brothers William Taylor(Cobbie), Geogre P Taylor, Sisters-Susan Griffen(John), Claudia Blake(Willie Jean), Rosalie Watts(Lascelle Sr,) Kathleen Gordon(Robert), Sister-in-law Vivan Taylor, her Sister Dear Geneva, and best friend Millie.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory her brother John Taylor, Children Brian and Jaki Jenkins. A special one she called a daughter Robin, A Bonus daughter, Caregiver,& her "Partna" Arkey. Grandchildren John, Chiqulla, Roslynn Gomes, Michael Jr,Duwan(Wife Reina),Russell Sr, Sean(Wife Leigh), La'Tanja,& Kimberly Jackson,Brian Jr, Terrance, Jaki Jr(Wife Maneisha), Rashad, & Kai Betty Jenkins. 20+ great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, and host of many many family and friends.
