Angela Matthews

September 26, 1944 — March 14, 2025

Boston, MA

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Angela Rosetta “Doreen” Matthews, who departed this life on March 14, 2025.

Doreen was a pillar of strength, wisdom, and fierce love—a woman who led with an iron fist when it came to protecting her family and stood unapologetically firm in her beliefs.

Born on September 26, 1944, in Parham Town, Antigua, W.I., she migrated to Boston, MA, in 1990. Doreen was a force to be reckoned with—fiercely independent, bold, and unmistakably herself. She didn’t take nonsense from anyone, always speaking her mind with sharp wit and undeniable wisdom. Her strength echoed through both her words and her actions, as she worked tirelessly to ensure her loved ones were safe, supported, and cared for.

To her family, she was far more than a matriarch—she was a protector, a provider, and a guiding light. She taught us the value of resilience, honesty, and loyalty. Her love, though tough at times, was always genuine. Her unwavering dedication to family was a powerful reflection of her heart.

Doreen leaves behind a legacy of courage and unwavering love, carried forward by her children: Andrea Edwards, Donna Matthews-Jeffrey, Sharon Edwards, Kelvin Edwards, Naomi Edwards, and Jason Barnes; eleven (11) grandchildren, sixteen (16) great-grandchildren, and two (2) great-great-grandchildren, along with many other beloved family members who remain forever grateful for her sacrifices, her lessons, and her unforgettable spirit.

Her absence will be deeply felt, but her love and the values she instilled in us will remain eternal. May she rest in peace—free from pain, watching over us with the same fierce strength and grace that defined her life.
