Aldina Monteiro

Aldina Mendes Monteiro, better known as "Nha Mama de Fogo", was born on December 20, 1925 on the island of Fogo, Cabo Verde. She immigrated to the United States in 1979 with her late husband Manuel Rufino Monteiro in pursuit of their entrepreneurial goals. She spent her adult life residing primarily in Achada Santo António, Praia, Cabo Verde, and Boston, MA. Aldina was 98 when she transitioned peacefully in her daughter's home, surrounded by family on Sunday, February 25, 2024.

She is survived by her son, Jose Monteiro and his wife Luiza Monteiro of Boston, MA, her daughter, Gracieth "Zinha" Amado and her husband Joao Amado of Boston, MA, and her son, Mario Monteiro and his wife Isabel Monteiro of Seymour, CT. In addition, her thirteen grandkids Katia Depina, Nicolle Amado, John Amado, Jose Carlos Monteiro, Nilda Amado, Maisa Monteiro, Victor Monteiro, Mario "Djunha" Monteiro, Elga "Kiki" Santiago, Joe "Tchow" Amado, Marlene Leo, Veronica Webb, and Priscilla Amado and eighteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carlota Depina and Rudolfo Mendes, and her brother Ernesto Mendes.

She leaves behind many friends and family and will be forever missed.
