Manuel Deregla Ortiz

January 1, 1953 — January 26, 2022

Manuel DeRegla Ortiz, sixty-eight years old, of Dorchester, MA, passed away on January 26, 2022, at the Beth Israel Medical Center in Boston, MA. Manuel was born in Bani, the Dominican Republic to Pelegrina Maria Ortiz and Rafael Perez on September 26, 1953. His childhood was notable for the many friendships he formed with his peers, and the firefighters where his father was employed as the engine driver. It was during this time that he became known by his nickname Cepillo. As a teenager, he worked at La Famosa, a large industrial company in Bani to help support his family. There he was employed as a forklift operator and trailer truck driver for seventeen years, earning the trust and respect of the company’s owners. He was hard working and loyal, generous with and supportive of his fellow employees. These attributes contributed to the man he became; an exemplary son, parent, grandparent, and husband. Manny as he was later known by his extended family and circle of friends was truly loved by all. He was blessed with a wonderful sense of humor, genuine charisma, empathy, and compassion for his fellow man. He enjoyed listening to all genres of music but his favorite artist was always Javier Solis, whom he referred to as “El Suave”. Manuel was very creative, building a birdhouse or a side table with wooden wine crates; or fixing whatever needed fixing, Manny was a true jack of all trades and master of many! Some of his other pastimes were playing Parcheesi; watching the Red Sox on tv; but his favorite was vacationing at the seashore, in the Dominican Republic with family and friends, and especially on the beaches of Maine. Manuel is survived by his spouse of twenty years, Raquel Womble-Ortiz; his children Carlos Manuel Montero, Evelin Montero, Miguel Ortiz Lara, Johanny Ortiz Lara, Alexander Manuel Ortiz; his grandchildren Carlos Adrian Ortiz, Kharliyah Ortiz, Manuel Ortiz Jr, Sebastian Ortiz, Penelope Ortiz,Nicole Anais Montero, Carlos Enmanuel Montero, Reymari Raquel Soto Ortiz, Rayder Manuel Soto Ortiz, Alaia Marie Ortiz, Joseph David Ortiz, Giovanni Alexander Ortiz; nine siblings; his step sons Luis Womble, Michael Womble, Joshua Womble; his step grandchildren Nicole Womble, Demario Womble, Melissa Womble. Manuel is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Martin Perez Ortiz, and his son Aneuri Alexis Ortiz Lara. Memorial donations may be made to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, the organization that provided the support and resources Manny and Raquel needed during his two battles with cancer. Raquel is forever grateful. John 14:1-4…New King James Version The Way, the Truth, and the Life 14 “Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. 2 In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, [b]I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. 4 And where I go you know, and the way you know.”
