Antonia Rosa Batista Soares was born on April 15, 1934 in São Lourenço, Cape Verde to Honorato Sabino Baptista and Angelica Rosa Baptista. She fell asleep in death at the age of 86 on January 22, 2021.
Antonia lived a very humble life in Cape Verde alongside her parents and siblings. She married her ever loving husband Joaquim Mendes Soares in March of 1967 in the small town of Galinheiro, Cape Verde. She then became the loving, caring and self sacrificing mother to their two children, Marieta Soares and Jose Augusto Soares. With the desire to better her family, she alongside her husband immigrated to the United States and set rootes in the city of Boston on December 17, 1976. There was a short separation between Antonia and her children. This was to allow for arranging housing and basic family needs. Despite leaving her children in the great hands of reliable family members, she as the loving mother she was, worried about them constantly. Shortly thereafter her children rejoined her, allowing her to now be at peace.
Antonia appreciatively lived the life of a homemaker, giving all of herself for her husband, children, grandchildren, family and friends. She loved family. She enjoyed being visited by those she loved. She was sure to make her visitors feel welcomed, and feeding them generously. She always encouraged her husband to be generous to family members and friends. She remained humble to her elder years. She was a good listener, a giving, kind, and loving person.
Antonia leaves behind her loving husband Joaquim, her beloved daughter Marieta and loyal son Jose Augusto, her grandchildren Shawde, Eduardo, Alejandro, and Ricardo, step-children Aduzinda and Jose Antonio, step-grandchildren Aristides,Cledy and Ashley. Many will be left to cherish her memories: her siblings, in-laws, nieces and nephews, extended family and friends here in the United States and in Cape Verde.
Antonia will always be remembered as a gentle soul and will be greatly missed by all.
