Anna Mae French was born in Selma, Alabama on September 27, 1935 to Carrie and Jessie Smith. At the age of 14, she joined the church and began singing in the choir. She graduated from R.B. Hudson High School in Selma, Alabama at the top of her class. In 1960, she relocated to Boston, Massachusetts and married Earnest Lee French, Sr. from Sardis, Alabama in 1967. Anna spent time working at Craig Air Force Base in Craig Field, Alabama, Boston Logan Airport, and Gillette Razors in South Boston, Massachusetts for 25 years until she retired in 1998.
Anna is preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy French and her late husband Earnest Lee French, Sr. She is survived by her children, Earnest Lee French, Jr. James French, Sr, Linda French, Eric French, Sr., John French and Jackie French; Sisters, Willie Dean Craig, and Mary Wright; Brother-in-law, Thounda Craig, Sr., Immediate grandchildren, Shanika French, Arkia French, William Demetrius French, Aaron French, James French, Jr., Melissa French, Danielle French, Sasha Carter, Ayana French, and Eric French, Jr., A host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
