Carl Rudolph Worrell

October 29, 1940 — May 23, 2017

Carl, affectionately called Carlie/Wow,Cat, was born in Ayshford, St. Thomas, on the beautiful island of Barbados .  He was the first child of Enid D. Worrell (Dee) and Wilbert Wilkinson (“Boisie”).  Carl attended Holy Innocent Boy’s school.  He  also went to  Sunday School and later became a member of the Holy Innocent church before coming to the U.S. A.

When he was very young hanging out with his cousin,” Alvin” Carl loved dancing.  He was so eager to learn to dance he could not wait to grow up so he taught himself to dance using a broom as his partner;  That’s where Carl learn to slide the girls across the  dance floor.  As a young man Carl moved so smoothly on the dance floor that he was encouraged to enter a competition at St. Thomas’ Social Center where he won first prize for dancing “The Twist”.  Carl was a Social Butterfly growing up and nothing stopped him from being adventurous. He was involved in many activities in Barbados. To name a couple: He ran the marathon was a member in the Barbados Regiment. He was a sharp dresser and his grandmother kept his regiment uniform spick and span for him to keep up his image. One could not touch Carl’s clothes when he was dressed without hearing things like, “Watch out, be careful, don’t dirty my clothes!”  (And, he was very serious when he said it).

Carl worked for General Crude Oil Company, and then for the Transport Board as a bus driver.  He wrapped that bus around like a toy. He immigrated to Boston to join his sister Maureen and his brother, Havergal (Cled) in August of 1981.  In his early years, Carl always said “The day I get married the calendar is going to turn back!”  Low and behold to everyone’s surprise Carl returned to Barbados the next year to be united in marriage to Ina Ishmael (Marjory) on July 31 of 1982. Ina joined him in Boston in October 1983.

After coming to Boston he worked as a custodian at Brigham & Women Hospital, Brooks Brothers, and later for Carricom in Arlington before retiring. Carl acquired a strong liking for playing bingo which he played weekly at the Catholic Church.  Carl took care of our mother during the last days of her life so that his sister Maureen could go to work, and that’s what his daughter, Coleen, did for him during the last years of his life.

Carl is survived by his wife Ina, nine children;  Anna Worrell Springer(David), Tyrone Springer,  Donna Worrell Alleyne,(Lawrence) Vernon Worrell, Grace Worrell Watts,(Wilfred)  Stephen Worrell, Coleen Worrell, Wayne Worrell and Kevin Ishmael. Six Sisters Maureen P. Worrell, Sharon, Cheryl, Jennifer, Cecilia, Bernice and Three brothers, Havergal Worrell,(Ingrid) Edward, Kairon (deceased) twenty-one Grand children, eight great grand children. nine Nieces and sixteen nephews.  He also leaves behind a host of relatives from the Boyce, Rock, Wilkinson,  Davis, Broomes, Norville, Inniss’ Small’s and many cousins and friends in Boston, Barbados, Guyana, CA. UK, Canada, and other parts of the world too numerous to mention.

May He rest in peace.
